Looking for a Few Good Mechwarriors
Giant robots. Big battles. Real learning.
If your student loves science fiction—or you want something healthier than more screen time—this is the program for them.
In A STEM Tutoring’s Battletech/MechWarrior Adventure Lab, students step into the role of MechWarriors, piloting massive walking tanks in a universe full of strategy, danger, and deep lore.
While they’re having a blast, they’re also building:
Math skills (account for range, terrain, target movement; track damage; design Battlemechs)
Critical thinking (planning battle strategies and adapting on the fly)
Leadership skills (students rotate as team leader)
Teamwork and communication
Reflection and self-improvement through mission debriefs
Missions as diverse as assault, recon, rescue, diplomatic protection, and others challenge students to plan carefully and adapt to changing situations. After each scenario, students conduct an “after-action review” led by the current team leader to analyze what happened, lessons learned, and how to improve next mission.
It’s fun, it’s challenging, and it builds skills that matter.
Let your student pilot a giant robot—and become an adept thinker, leader, and teammate at the same time.
Timing Details
Planning for either a Saturday or Sunday, starting at either 12noon or 1pm. Possibly a 4 hour game, possibly an 8 hour game. That sounds long, but having played these games when I was young, I know it gets rather involved and takes a lot of playing time to get a decent amount of game play done. For example, if you want to fire at an enemy target, you must account for many factors, roll the dice, and then if you score a hit, damage and effects must be recorded appropriately. Time flies by because it’s so much fun.
Cost
For a 4-hour game, cost per student is $60. For an 8-hour game, cost per student is $120. This works out to $15 per hour for each student, much less than the cost of private tutoring.
For the 8-hour game, we will also take a one-hour meal break, I will provide food. Students are encouraged to bring snacks or drinks to share.
